The
Actor / Director Laboratory
Tamasha's week-long laboratory for actors and directors took
place earlier this month at Graeae's Bradbury Studios in east
London. The
course, open to partipants from all cultural backgrounds,
explored the actor-director relationship and allowed participants
to learn about Tamasha's unique intracultural approach.
We

A
Tainted Dawn
Earlier
this month, Kristine Landon-Smith directed a new production
of Tamasha's 1997 show A
Tainted Dawn with BA World Performance students
from East
15 Acting School.
This
atmospheric piece tells stories from the partition of Pakistan
from India and the resulting waves of refugees and forgotten
souls whose lives were destroyed in the process. The original
production premiered at the 1997 Edinburgh International Festival
(pictured) and starred Parminder Nagra and featured music
by Nitin Sawhney.
It
follows
a student production of East
is East, which Kristine directed at the National
Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney last year.
Associate
Artists
We're pleased to announce the four Associate
Artists who will joining Tamasha for five months
from January 2011.
Playwright
Fin Kennedy and filmmaker Tanya Singh
will run a pilot scheme in association with Mulberry School
for Girls in Tower Hamlets. Working both collaboratively and
individually, they will use the opportunity to develop a cross-artform
research project. They will invite writers to take part in
a structured series of workshops with staff, students and
alumni of the school to develop short scripts for performance
inspired by their conversations and experiences. We hope this
dialogue between Tamasha and Mulberry will lead to further
long term collaborations.
The
second pairing will see theatre-maker Avaes Mohammad
collaborate with filmmaker Kuldip Powar to
set up a Tamasha Writers' Group and Scratch Night and to explore
how the relationship between writers and film-makers can be
deepened through shared exchange.
