Following a sell-out London run, Tamasha - the UK's leading British Asian theatre company - returns to Birmingham with a powerful dramatisation of Rohinton Mistry's acclaimed novel

"This magnificent production is an
important and challenging piece of theatre"
Sunday Telegraph

"This adaptation is breathtaking"
New Statesman

"A welcome revival of a serious,
compassionate, hard-hitting play"

Sunday Times

India, 1975, and a callous government has declared a State of Emergency.

In these uncertain times, Dina Dalal - a spirited widow determined to avoid a second marriage - takes a student boarder and two tailors into her ramshackle flat.

Yet as the Emergency's forbidding policies bring chaos to the city, the four strangers - whose lives have become inextricably linked - find themselves crossing divides of caste and religion to form the most unexpected of friendships.

Through arresting visual imagery, an evocative score and an ensemble of eight actors (including Sudha Bhuchar as Dina Dalal), A Fine Balance vividly captures an astonishing moment in India's history with a tender story of exceptional human spirit.

Tamasha is one of the UK's leading touring companies. Best known for its groundbreaking productions like East is East, Balti Kings and Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings and a Funeral, Tamasha has played a key role in driving the crossover of Asian culture into the British mainstream.
