“Tamasha's commitment to new writing is fundamental in ensuring that we continue to hear new and exciting voices from every corner of the Asian community.” Ayub Khan Din, writer of East is East |
Intensive, fully-subsidised training for eight emerging or aspiring British Asian playwrights
Tamasha is the UK's foremost producer of new writing by British Asian playwrights, and the award-winning company behind productions like East is East, Strictly Dandia and The Trouble with Asian Men.
Our New Writing Workshop, run in partnership with the British Library, is an intensive two-week course which seeks to develop the artistic individuality of its participants. You might be a young, aspiring playwright wanting a bridge into professional employment, or an established artist looking to develop your skills in writing for theatre.
As one of eight successful applicants, you could benefit from:
Training in Tamasha's innovative research-based approach to new writing for theatre, as you explore a range of techniques and methodologies with our creative team |
Guest Lecturers, who will share their own approach to writing and research (previous guests have included novelist William Dalrymple and playwright Debbie Tucker Green) |
Individual support with your own writing from a professional dramaturg |
Theatre trips to new writing productions |
Access to the inspirational resources of the British Library |
Membership of the Tamasha Developing Artists programme, giving you access to a range of training, networking and employment
opportunities |
Free to take part
This full time course is offered free to successful applicants. You will also receive a weekly allowance towards lost earnings, and participants from outside Greater London can also apply for a reimbursement of relocation expenses.
How to apply
No formal qualifications are necessary to apply for this course. Applicants must, however, be able to demonstrate a strong desire to write professionally for theatre, and be of South Asian background. Section 34 7.2 and 37 of the Race Relations Act 1976 applies to this initiative.
