Introduction to Playwriting 8-week course – staff

8 x 2-hour sessions including a script-in-hand performance with professional actors

Tamasha’s introduction to playwriting course also comes in an adult version aimed at teachers, and can form a valuable part of English and Drama teachers’ CPD. The format is the same: an 8-week series of after-school workshops offering participants the tools and guidance to write up to three drafts an original short two-hander play (10 mins) on a subject of their choice. Group theatre trips can be included and the plays seen analysed and discussed. Sessions will be led by 2 members of the Tamasha Playwrights group, who have all received training from Tamasha’s Artistic Director Fin Kennedy, who will continue to support them throughout the process as well as visiting some sessions. Creative exercises from these sessions are directly transferable to the classroom for teachers to use with students.

The course can accommodate up to 15 participants, and can also be offered to teachers from subjects other than English and Drama as a general interest course, or where some understanding of the principles of storytelling might be applicable, e.g. History or RE. At the end of the course, professional actors will be hired to perform script-in-hand readings of teachers’ work to an invited audience in school. Teachers completing the course will receive a commemorative volume of all the scripts written during the course.

This course has previously been delivered for: Mulberry School for Girl and Thurrock Trailblazer.
