Introduction to Playwriting workshop

2 hours, half day, or full day

Two playwright tutors will lead a session for up to 15 students looking at the basics of creating an idea for a new short play – Character, Action, Location and Time. Through a series of creative exercises, students will each develop a concept for a new short play (or a scene from a longer play) for two characters, with a clear ‘map’ for its beginning, middle and end. Some writing can be done in class and the scene finished off for homework. For those working on devising a larger cast play for GCSE Drama, students’ play ideas can be linked into a longer narrative, if requested in advance.
This workshop has previously been delivered for: Tamasha Developing Artists, Mulberry School for Girls, St Paul’s Way Trust School, Swanlea School, Robert Clack School, Elizabeth Garret Anderson School, Luton Hat Factory youth theatre, Derby Theatre’s youth theatre, Sydenham Girls’ School, Loreto College Manchester and several others.
