‘I am a writer and without Tamasha I’d still be a taxi driver. My voice as a northern Asian would be muted and my attempts to open a window on a largely unexplored world would be firmly shut.’
Ishy Din, writer of Snookered

Tamasha means ‘commotion’, creating a stir. We specialise in producing theatre, artist training, new writing and intracultural practice. Tamasha aspires to work that has the multiple narratives and global perspectives of Britain’s evolving culture and audiences at its heart, propelling today’s unknown talent into tomorrow’s leading artists. After 22 years, we continue to shape and challenge the mainstream.
Tamasha has launched the careers of many well-known artists such as Parminder Nagra (Bend it Like Beckham/ ER), Jimi Mistry (East is East and West is West) and Ayub Khan Din (East is East). Landmark productions include East is East, Strictly Dandia and A Fine Balance. Founders and Artistic Directors Sudha Bhuchar and Kristine Landon Smith have won the Asian Women of Achievement Award in 2005 for Arts and Culture and were recognised as cultural entrepreneurs with a First Women Award in 2010.
An investment in Tamasha clearly bears dividends in the wider cultural landscape.
Why Tamasha needs your support
The company is supported by the Arts Council England as part of its National Portfolio of funded organisations. However, our plans are ambitious and in these challenging times, we aim to reduce the ratio of government subsidy without curtailing our plans for growth. Our strong track record in financial management ensures that Tamasha is poised to become a more fluid and agile organisation, able to respond to opportunities. Regular donations over a three year period will enable us plan our activity, invest in collaborations, and will act as a catalyst to help us attract further creative and financial partners and investment.
How can you help?
There are many ways to give where you will make a real difference and enable plans made on paper to come to fruition. The money you give will go directly towards nurturing TDA artists and uncovering the next generation of unheard voices.
Become a Tamasha supporter!
Join a core of supporters who pledge to give at least £100 per year for at least the next 3 years. 100 supporters will enable us to raise £10,000 per year, which could pay for one new play commission. Join the Tamasha 100 today!
£250 will support a New Artist to come on to a Tamasha course. It was Ishy Din’s attendance on a New Writing course that led to Snookered being commissioned.
£500 will support a Promising Artist develop a new idea. Auntie Netta and All I want is a British Passport! starring Nadim Sawalha started this way.
£1000 will allow a deeper relationship with Emerging Artists. A group of artists working on early ideas for scratch performances could benefit.
£3000 will support an Associate Artist in a bespoke project. Artists working with schools, or engaging with communities in a project around a production.
£5000 + will go towards commissioning a play or similar online commission leading to a core production like Snookered. You will be invited into the heart of the company: your name can be attached to directly making a difference to a particular project or artist and you can be credited across our publications and marketing materials. You will receive advance information on events and have growing opportunities to connect with our circle of artists.
Corporate packages / sponsorship: We offer bespoke packages to corporate supporters such as buying out a night as a unique way of entertaining clients and getting a more intimate access to the company, or sponsoring a Tamasha project or production.
