Forthcoming productions
We are delighted to announce three productions currently in development, which together form Tamasha's forthcoming season of new work for 2010/11.
The House of Bilquis Bibi
by Sudha Bhuchar
adapted from Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba
Tamasha presents a new interpretation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s seminal 1936 Spanish drama, set in present-day Jhang in the Punjab region of Pakistan - a town steeped in tragedy and romance.
Since the death of her husband, widow Bilquis obsesses over her family's reputation. For her five stay-at-home daughters, their fates lie solely in Bilquis’ hands. When cousin Pappu returns from America and becomes engaged to her eldest daughter, Bilquis is blind to the illicit nightly visits he makes to his fiancée’s balcony. But as she slowly realises that more than one daughter is staying awake for him, the tension builds and a tragedy unfolds.

My Name Is... is a politically-charged story of what can happen when love falls apart and families break down.
The Arrival
based on the graphic novel by Shaun Tan
In 2005, director Kristine Landon-Smith was given a copy of the graphic novel The Arrival by Australian illustrator and storyteller, Shaun Tan. She was immediately inspired. Through wordless images, it tells the story of a migrant who bids farewell to his family to begin a new life in another country. Interweaving stories of persecution, fear, hope and new beginnings, Tan creates a fantastical world full of alien creatures, strange encounters and surreal, shapeshifting buildings.
Tamasha is delighted to have forged a partnership with The Circus Space to develop The Arrival as a full production, working with circus artists from the north London school to realise the theatrical potential of this exceptional piece. It will be staged in London in Spring 2011.
