Critical Mass 2018

The Belgrade Theatre has a strong commitment to representing the diversity of the city’s communities, and for the last few years has been working hard to build links with local BAMER groups. Whilst the representation of BAMER communities in our existing groups is largely reflective of the city ratios, the voices of these communities are rarely heard since they are always a minority voice within a group. So the theatre’s Critical Mass playwriting scheme, aiming to develop writers from within the local community, is one of our running targeted projects that seeks to provide a platform for new voices.

Critical Mass 2018

Critical Mass is a free playwriting programme run at the Belgrade Theatre for writers aged 18+ from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee backgrounds. Previous participants have gone on to have their plays workshopped or performed as rehearsed readings and beyond, including Red Snapper by Liz Mytton, which became a full stage production at the Belgrade Theatre in Spring 2016. There are a limited number of places available, which will be allocated to the writers who submit the best work. The programme will run from September to December 2018 for one evening a week.
