Tamasha in partnership with Kristine Landon-Smith & Associates present

Headphone Verbatim Technique with Kristine Landon-Smith

A one-week workshop in this powerful performance technique from Tamasha's co-founder

We're offering a unique training and performance opportunity to artists to make and perform a headphone verbatim show. Over the course of the week, actors will go out and record interviews with local residents, edit those interviews, before being trained to perform them. The week will culminate in a performance at Streatham Space Project on Sat 24 November 2018, where the participants will showcase the pieces they have developed throughout the week.

Kristine Landon-Smith, previous Artistic Director of Tamasha, will lead the workshop teaching the famed technique: this includes how to interview, the purpose of the edit, how to edit and how to perform. This will give participants the tools to respond rapidly to the issues of the day - a method that could not be more crucial in the current global political climate.

A little bit about the technique...

Immediate, nimble and authentic; headphone verbatim technique allows for a fast and agile response to the quickly changing political landscape.

In developing this technique, its pioneers Anna Deveare-Smith and Mark Wing Davey led a revolution in theatre in the 1990s.

This technique allows every breath, every utterance, every idiosyncratic detail of the speaker to be captured by the performer and the result is often a series of poignant, unpredictable, tender, funny and honest testimonies.
