Introduction to Playwriting 8-week course – students

8 x 2-hour sessions including a script-in-hand performance with professional actors

Tamasha’s introduction to playwriting course will give young people aged 13-18 the tools and guidance to write up to three drafts an original short two-hander play (10 mins) on a subject of their choice. The course runs over 8 weeks and starts with a Recruitment taster session in a timetabled GCSE class, led by Tamasha’s artistic director Fin Kennedy. This is then followed by a full class theatre trip. Students wishing to pursue playwriting will then receive 6 after-school sessions led by 2-3 members of the Tamasha Playwrights group, who have all received training from Fin who will continue to support them throughout the process.
The course can accommodate up to 15 students. We suggest that it is most suitable for Year 10 students studying GCSE Drama, but younger year groups or sixth form could all work well. Students will receive one-to-one attention on their scripts and will have the unique opportunity to engage with working playwrights. At the end of the course, professional actors will be hired to perform script-in-hand readings of the students’ work to an invited audience in school. Artistic Director Fin Kennedy will oversee the whole process and attend some sessions. Students completing the course will receive a commemorative volume of all the scripts written during the course.

This course has previously been delivered for: Mulberry School for Girls.
