Tamasha's Snookered

Who’s behind the wheel?

We are thrilled that a selection of entries to the project were screened at Rick Mix in April 2012 and can now be viewed online here

To coincide with the premiere of Ishy Din’s new razor sharp play Snookered, Tamasha is inviting creative responses to the question ‘Who’s Behind the Wheel?’ Before Ishy was a writer, he drove cabs in Middlesborough, during that time he developed an ear for characters, dialogue and storylines and started to write. Who’s Behind the Wheel? is inspired by Ishy’s experience and asks artists to interrogate the daily journeys they make and the people that make them possible.

There are two ways you can participate;

1) Make a film about the people who get you from A to B on a daily basis

2) Submit a photographic montage of your daily journey to be a part of new media artist Eva Auster’s installation ‘A Collective Journey’

More details are below:

Submit a short film

Deadline for entries: 6th April 2012

Tamasha is inviting short film submissions from around the world about the people who transport you on a daily basis. Taxi drivers, bus drivers, train drivers, rickshaw riders… you name it! If they’re somehow involved in getting people from A to B then we want to hear their stories and find out ‘Who’s really Behind the Wheel’!

“I used to be a taxi driver that wrote and now I'm a writer who drives a taxi!”
- Ishy Din, writer of Snookered

The films will be showcased in an online gallery and discussion and interaction around the pieces will be encouraged and integrated with Tamasha’s online community. This is a fantastic opportunity to have your work seen by a wide international audience and be part of a highly anticipated show touring all over the UK.

Selected films will be screened in front of an invited industry audience at Rich Mix in London at a special on the 27th April 2012.

One filmmaker will be offered a place on one of the London Film Academy’s Specialised Courses of their choice from this selection: Documentary: A filmmaker’s toolkitDirecting: A Filmmaker’s toolkit, Composing: Music in Film, Producing: The Business of Film and Writing: Screenplay in a Day (places subject to availability, see website for upcoming dates).

The brief is open to interpretation and we welcome all genres and styles; whether you shoot it on a mobile phone or hire in a film crew, the important thing is that you have a good story to tell about who’s really behind the wheel.

A Response to Who’s Behind the Wheel?: A Collective Journey
by Eva Auster

Tamasha is working with creative video designer Eva Auster to create an interactive installation for the Bush Theatre foyer during the London run of Snookered (28th February – 24th march). We’re asking for photographic montages of your journey to be a part of this installation:

See it. Think it. Shoot it. Post it.

What is your journey?

Take a series of pictures whilst on your journey

Write down a conversation you overhear and/ or thoughts about your journey

Send it to us by emailing: nor40among@photos.flickr.com Put your ‘firstname.surname’ in the subject line, attach the photos and write the fragment of conversation you heard in the body of the email

What will be your journey today? Just Keep Moving.

Eva will use your photographic montages to create a collection videos and sequences, shown on little screens hidden amongst the bookshelves of the Bush Theatre library.

Tamasha is grateful for the support of the London Film Academy
