Sweet Cider

by Emteaz Hussain

A community is in crisis. Two Pakistani girls have run from their families: one is hunted, the other forgotten.

Their bid for freedom has led them to an Asian women's refuge in a nearby Northern town. But with dialogue between the generations impossible, the girls soon ask themselves how sweet freedom really is.

A poignant story of fractured family ties, Sweet Cider is the debut play by Emteaz Hussian, and a prime example of Tamasha's active support of talented new writers.

A newcomer to playwriting, Em participated in Tamasha New Writing, part of our Developing Artists programme. In response to her outstanding work on the course, she was offered a commission with dramaturgical support.

Em’s work has now developed into an exceptional piece of new writing, exploring the complexities of splintered family connections and cultural alienation with a poetic, contemporary, and highly individual text.

Tickets will go on sale in July. For group booking enquiries (20 people or more) or to book a private performance, please email rasheed@tamasha.org.uk
